Notes:
-
The height of the main structure excluding all appurtenances such as rods, antennas, obstruction lights, etc., determines the number of light levels.
-
Note: Any appurtenances over 40 feet (12 meters) requires additional lighting, consisting of a Medium Intensity L-865 White Strobe and a L-864 Red Beacon.
-
This dual lighting system includes red light (L-864) for nighttime and high intensity flashing lights (L-856) for daytime and twilight use. This lighting system may be used in lieu of operating a high intensity flashing white lighting system at night. There may be some populated areas where the use of high intensity lighting may cause significant environmental concerns. The use of the dual lighting system should reduce/mitigate those concerns.
-
The chart above illustrates the requirements for standard lighting of towers and supporting structures in accordance with FAA Advisory Circular 70/7460-1; Chapters 3, 4, 9, and 12.
